MCs: Jeri Deitrick, seasoned organizer with ACTUP-LA, veteran women’s clinic defender and riKu matsuda, Japanese American trans-feminist, host of KPFK’s Morning Review.
June 1969 marks the date of the Stonewall Rebellion where drag queens, gays of color and lesbians launched the modern Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender movement with a three day riot against police brutality at a New York City gay bar. But, even after 40 years of struggle, homophobia still rules as the California Supreme Court upheld Prop 8 and its ban on gay marriage May 26, 2009. Bring your spoken word, rousing oratory, music or poetry that addresses what holds the movement back from winning not just marriage equality, but full queer and transgender civil rights.
