The Orange County chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State will host a screening of “Constantine’s Sword”
CONSTANTINE’S SWORD is an astonishing exploration of the dark side of Christianity. It is the story of James Carroll, a former Catholic priest on a journey to confront his past and uncover the roots of religiously inspired violence and war. The son of an Air Force General, Carroll as a young priest, was an activist opposing the Viet Nam War. These two themes come together as Carroll confronts the militant origins and history of the Catholic Church including Constantine’s conquest of Rome and his political structuring of Christianity, the Crusades, the Inquisition, structural anti-Semitism, and the Church’s complicity in the rise of Hitler and the Holocaust.
