NEIGHBORS FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY PRESENTS
CHILDREN OF WAR A film by Bryan Single and Tim Beckett
Sunday, May 17, 2009 7 pm – doors open at 6:30pm Unitarian Universalist Church of Studio City 12355 Moorpark St., Studio City CA 91604
Set in the East African country of Uganda, CHILDREN OF WAR is a hauntingly beautiful documentary that follows the emotional and spiritual journey of a group of former child soldiers who have escaped to overcome their years of brutal abuse and forced combat with the help of a heroic team of dedicated counselors.
Over the course of more than 18 years of fighting the Ugandan government, the Lord’s Resistance Army is said to have abducted twenty thousand children and forced them to participate as perpetrators in their violent struggle – or become victims. CHILDREN OF WAR provides an emotional and universal illustration of the challenges of healing from war, reintegrating combatants into society and creating a new future in the aftermath of trauma,. It is a powerful and cathartic story of hope, faith, love and homecoming in the aftermath of war. The mesmerizing cinematography is reminiscent of the show Ashes and Snow.
Filmmakers and Producers Bryan Single and Tim Beckett, who share both documentary and artistic backgrounds, will be present at the screening and available for questions afterwards. www.childrenofwarfilm.org
