[Carlos Manuel de C?spedes] (born April 18, 1819) was a Cuban Planter, lawyer and landowner who purchased ?La Demajagua?, an estate with a tobacco plantation in 1844, after returning from Spain. On October 10, 1868, Carlos Manuel made ?Grito de Yara? (Cry of Yara), declaring ?Cuban Independence?, which began the Ten Years? War. That Morning, after sounding the slave bell that indicated to his slaves it was time for work, they stood before him waiting for orders, and C?spedes announced they were all free men, and were invited to join him and his fellow conspirators in a war against the Spanish government of Cuba. For this, he is called ?Padre de la Patria? (Father of the Country). (For more information on C?spedes, please read attached biography, courtesy of Wikipedia).
To honor this extraordinary man, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, a brave yet humble monarch figure, who sacrificed all of his integrity, by taking the first steps towards abolishing slavery, segregation and establishing equality amongst all humans of all race, color and creed, and who acted as a role model, displaying unity for all of mankind, we would like to show our appreciation by having this amazing Dance Festival ?El Padre de la Patria?, celebrating his birth.
