Bassim Chmait died on February 5, 2005, when an ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) cop shot him while off-duty. The violence against him was unprovoked and unjust. We will be commemorating this young man at the place of his death. Doing this, we will be recognizing the injustice that had occured, for the cop was recently acquitted (Jan 2009) of all charges.
