Physicians for Social Responsibility - Los Angeles is hosting a Town Hall meeting on the explosive intersection between terrorism and weapons of mass destruction in our lives. These issues are raised in Avoiding Armageddon, the 4-part PBS series from Ted Turner Documentaries that just aired on KCET.
As prelude to the Town Hall meeting, Avoiding Armageddon took viewers to some of the most dangerous places in the world. It presented an unflinching global look at the dramatic human stories that convey the terrible consequences of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, their connection with terrorism, as well as the hope that the world can still choose to avoid Armageddon.
The Town Hall discussion includes Peter Katona, MD of the UCLA School of Medicine and a member, Los Angeles County Task Force on Preparedness for Bioterrorism; nuclear weapons expert, G. Wayne Glass, PhD, visiting scholar at USC?s School of International Relations and former Senator Bingaman's (NM) principal staff advisor for the Senate Armed Services Committee; chemical weapons expert, Robert A. Beaudet, PhD, Professor of Chemistry, University of Southern California and Danielle Babineau, State Political Director, California Peace Action. These distinguished experts will discuss policy and public health issues raised in the documentary, the threat of these weapons present to Southern Californians and what we can do to limit the risks.
