Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin will display her paintings and sculptures in an exhibit entitled ?In Lak Ek: You Are My Other Me: Ubuntu,? at the Southern California Library in South Los Angeles. The opening reception on May 24 will offer an opportunity to meet with the artist, purchase art, and hear the music of Guillermo de la Luna?s Bacanal Afro Cuban Rhythms. At a related symposium on June 21, artists and community activists will talk about how art can connect and unify diverse communities in South Los Angeles and beyond. The symposium will also feature socially conscious hip hop R&B soul funk by the LowKeys and a drum circle, with the public invited to bring their own drums and percussion instruments. The exhibit ends June 30, 2008. It will be on display at the Southern California Library, 6120 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles (between Slauson and Gage).
