The Southern California Library is holding an artists reception this Saturday, Feb. 23, from 1-5 p.m., for our exhibit "Word on the Street!" The event will feature a presentation by muralist and street artist Carlos Callejo, on "Chicano Art and Activism in the 1970s," at 3 p.m. Callejo has been active in people's movements for decades, creating murals in barrios throughout the U.S. and abroad. Also featuring the work of the Pocho Research Society of Erased and Invisible History, the Street Art Workers Collective, and more.
There will also be free art workshops for teens--working directly with artists--to learn how to make stencils and create stickers. The workshops will be from 2-4 p.m. on a drop-in basis.
