An event at the Southern California Library, ?(Show) Trials and Tribulations: Enemy Combatants and the Saga at Guantanamo Bay,? features Muneer Ahmad, associate professor of law at American University and a former defense attorney for a Guantanamo detainee. Professor Ahmad will provide an update on the situation at Guantanamo Bay and draw the connections between the U.S. war on terror and how it plays out in terms of citizenship, race, and constitutional rights.
Professor Ahmad will speak from his firsthand knowledge of:
? the legal rules and practices that apply to people accused of terrorism and detained by the U.S. at Guantanamo,
? what it takes to defend constitutional rights and principles in terrorism cases, and
? how the U.S. military prosecutes "enemy combatants" and what the role of the Supreme Court has been in these cases.
The event takes place at noon, on Wednesday, February 20. The Library is located at 6120 S. Vermont in Los Angeles. For more information, call (323) 759-6063 or go to www.socallib.org.
