New film on Oaxaca premiers at Pan African Film Festival
OAXACA: Megamarch for Justice (Spanish with English subtitles) documents the massive community-teacher movement which came together following years of government corruption and electoral fraud in this Mexican state, and the violent eviction of thousands of teachers on strike who had occupied Oaxaca?s city center. The film includes footage of Indymedia journalist Brad Will right before he was killed as paramilitaries opened fire on protesting communities. It gives voice to the ongoing struggle of a united people determined to win and the repression they face by police, federal forces and paramilitaries: disappearances, assassinations, arbitrary detentions, torture, rape and murder. 6:45pm, at AMC Magic Johnson Theaters, 3560 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Los Angeles 90008. Produced by the Global Women?s Strike, 323-276-9833. Intro followed by Q&A. www.globalwomenstrike.net. A full list of films to be shown at the Pan African Film Festival can be found on www.paff.org.
