An all-day event at the Southern California Library, "I Have a Story to Tell," will feature appearances by some of the most compelling storytellers of our time, as well as a world-class jazz performance—all for free.
Buddy Collette, who made his legend playing music in the historic Central Avenue jazz scene while fighting racism in the music industry, will share his story and his band will perform. Noted L.A. storyteller and veteran film actress Ellaraino will deliver a moving performance as Biddy Mason—a former slave who became a powerful force for social causes as one of the first Black women to own land in Los Angeles. Teatro Q will perform original dramatic pieces exploring the stories of queer women of color. The event will also feature activities for families and children, a silent auction, plenty of food, giveaways, and more. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place at the Southern California Library, 6120 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles (between Slauson and Gage) on Saturday, December 8, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A full schedule of events and performances is available on the web at www.socallib.org. Please RSVP: (323) 759-6063.
