Shadows ?by Mary Amin Ayubi ??"Shadows" - winner of several international awards and part of the Emmy Award nominated series "Afghanistan Unveiled", will be screened on October 3rd at 6PM in the Palisades Branch Library.

Admission is FREE.

"Shadows" is an hour-long documentary film on the condition of women in Afghanistan.

It depicts the life of a young video journalist (Mary Ayubi) who was trained by AINA (an NGO working for the development of independent media and cultural expression in Afghanistan). On a trip across her country, Mary evinces the current situation of her fellow countrywomen.

As a structural device, her personal diary lends the narration rhythm. "Shadows - Ombres afghanes " reveals Mary’s doubts and difficulties and shows us how the young woman gradually gains the courage to deal with them and speak out for her Afghan sisters.

Director Mary Ayubi is currently a Feuchtwanger Fellow at the Villa Aurora. ??The filmmaker will be available after the showing for questions and answers moderated by Nahid Massoud, director of Sharq Art and historian Robert A. Rosenstone.
