300 TRABAJADORES DETENIDOS EN NEWBEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS 300 WORKERS DETAINED IN NEWBEDFORD, MASSACHUSETTS
\"Where is my Mother?\" \"Donde esta mi Mama?\"
On March 6th, approximately 300 workers were detained during a raid on the garment factory Michael Bianco, Inc. \"The women and men that were working in the factory that was raided were working under deplorable conditions, yet apart from some fleeting statements, the federal government has paid absolutely no attention to that,\" stated Jose A. Soler, director of Labor Education Center at the University of Mass., putting forward the position of AFL-CIO. Over 100 children were left without one or both parents.
However, community people organized an independent resistance that immediately gathered 800 protesters. This effort managed to liberate half of those detained. Representatives of this grassroots movement will visit Los Angeles in June to expose the unjust detentions and family separations. They are being invited by L.A. workers to show how grassroots organizing is crucial and is most effective in responding to the people\'s needs.
