Thousands of low-cost used and new political and historical books and pamphlets will be available at a one-day-only book sale in South Los Angeles. As independent book stores are closing down daily and increasingly fewer public outlets are available that carry materials outside of the mainstream, the sale will provide access to hard-to-find books on current and historical political conditions. Books will be available on politics, history, ethnic studies, and more, and an exhibit of artwork by prisoners in the Security Housing Unit at Pelican Bay State Prison will be on display. The book sale will take place at the Southern California Library, located at 6120 S. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles (between Slauson and Gage) on Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; families and children welcome. Refreshments will be offered. For more information, go to www.socallib.org or call (323) 759-6063.
