'Step It Up' National Day of Climate Action
Tell Congress to "Step It Up! Cut carbon 80% by 2050." We'll host a march in Westchester as part of the national 'Step It Up 2007' campaign on April 14, 2007.
The site we've chosen is right near the flightpath of Los Angeles International Airport, the fifth largest airport in the world. We'll march down Sepulveda Blvd, one of the three major access roads to the airport area. The airport taxis, busses, limos will all see our banners.
Co-hosts: Environmental Change-Makers Cool Campus Initiative (student's environmental club at Loyola Marymount University) Los Angeles Greens Details: Saturday, April 14, 12 noon - 2p.m. We'll begin our march at Sepulveda and Manchester in Westchester. The march will take place on the sidewalk, without disrupting the flow of traffic. In this way we can display our message to the maximum number of people as they journey to and from the airport. Bring posters, banners, etc calling for climate action. Idea starters: Why are you marching? (my kids; future generations; social justice/people in Bangladesh, etc.) What action would you like to see? (Sign Kyoto Protocol; Limit mpg on US automakers, etc). If you can't think of anything, just repeat all or part of the march slogan: "Step It Up, Congress! Cut carbon 80% by 2050."
All are welcome, including students, families, kids, seniors, parishes... We recommend that you bring sunscreen, hats, water. Street parking is available on Sepulveda Eastway and Sepulveda Westway (streets parallel to Sepulveda behind CVS or Staples). Please be considerate of merchants in the area.
