A year and a half ago, students across the country demanded that their universities take a stand against sweatshop exploitation by adopting the Designated Suppliers Program. Since that time, the University of Southern California has refused to adopt this policy, which would ensure that workers producing university apparel can form independent unions and negotiate living wages. On Wednesday, members of the Student Coalition Against Labor Exploitation will host a knit-in to force the University of Southern California to address the fact that Trojan apparel continues to be made at the expense of workers’ basic human rights. In doing so, they will join students at more than forty universities throughout the US and Canada in an international day of action demanding that universities hold brands such as Nike and Adidas accountable for their continued labor abuses. ###
