January 30, 2007 marks the 35th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Derry City, in Ireland\'s six counties occupied by Britain.
On that day in 1972, tens of thousands of Irish women and men filled Derry\'s streets to protest Internment -- the detention of Irish activists in concentration camps indefinitely without being tried in any court, charged with any crime, or even accused of any crime.
It was on that day that the 1st Battalion of the British Parachute Regiment opened fire, shooting twenty-six demonstrators. Thirteen people, six of whom were minors, died immediately. The death of another person 4 1/2 months later has been attributed to the injuries he received on that day.
Thirty-five years after Bloody Sunday, Britain has yet to apologize for the carnage it caused that day. Thirty-five years later, and the blood is still fresh on Britain\'s hands. Thirty-five years later, and the only peace Britain can offer, remains the peace of the grave.
