CULTURAL SOLIDARITY NIGHT:
20th Year Commemoration of the Mendiola Massacre, January 22, 1987 and Tribute to the Victims of Political Killings in the Philippines, 2001-2206
On January 22, 1987, at the height of the peace talks between the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the Philippine government from November 27, 1987 to January 27, 1987, without any provocation, the Philippine armed forces and the constabulary fired on a crowd of peasants killing 13 farmers and wounding more tha 150 mothers . it was called the Mendiola Massacre.
Because of the massacre, the NDF withdrew from the negotiations and the AFP launched it's counter-insurgency war against the NPA. The Philippines was plunged again into a long civil war that lasts until today.
Also on its 20th year of the infamous massacre, Pesante and EFJP will hold commemorative event and will also honor the more than 800 human rights victims of the present US-Arroyo regime.
