The impending attack on Iraq is just the latest in the ongoing violations against people of color all over the globe. It’s not about protecting anyone from Sadam, but about stealing Iraqi oil. We salute the thousands who have protested for peace against the U.S. going to war with Iraq. However this country has not been at peace with Iraq; it is well documented that the U.S. has not stopped dropping bombs on Iraq since the “end” of the Gulf War. To fight against this or that war is to address only a symptom of the havoc caused globally by the U.S. Empire and its satellites. In order to achieve a meaningful, i.e. lasting and global peace, we have to fight not for peace, but for justice. Peace is a by-product of justice and cannot be achieved as an abstract notion. When people do not feel a sense of justice, they will not know peace! To be given reparations means to be compensated or repaired for damage done, in other words to be treated justly. Africans and Indigenous Peoples all over the world have never been repaired for the damage done by Europeans during the invasion and takeover of our lands, the mass slaughter and enslavement of our people and the continuing human rights violations against us. Many people of color all over the world are in a perpetual state of war and a “peace movement” simply does not go to the heart of the matter. If you truly seek peace, fight for justice and reparations, for only this will achieve real peace. Come and join our protest and take a stand against war and for peace, justice and reparations! Community Educational Protest Saturday February 22nd, 2003 11am – 2pm The corner of Slauson and Vermont Ave. Hosted by New Panther Vanguard Movement and Atlachinolli Front
