Who: Port Troqueros (truck drivers) Industrial Workers of the World, Los Angeles General Membership Branch contact: 310 549-9300
What: Solidarity Rally with Truckers To show solidarity with 50 striking mechanics at ConGlobal who have been on strike for 6 weeks. We will be asking all truck drivers to show solidarity
When: Friday, 9am October 20
Where: Lomita Blvd 2 blocks east of Eubank St. Wilmington, CA
Why: 50 mechanics represented by the http://www.goiam.org/ are on strike against conglobal http://www.cgini.com/LosAngeles.asp Truck driver members of the IWW http://www.iww.org/en/node/2580 and supporters will be hosting a solidarity rally this Friday at 9 am. With the solidarity of truck drivers the striking mechanics will win. This past week we got involved and brought truck traffic crossing the picket line from 300 trucks daily to about 30, a 90% drop in movement.
This solidarity from the troqueros is a product of the recent pro-migrant actions this past March 25 and May Day. Truck drivers are refusing to take dispatch to ConGlobal and trucking companies do NOT want any labor trouble by getting involved with someone else's problem.
We expect several dozen trucks at the rally. We now have convinced 10,000 port truck drivers to respect the picket line.
The Point: When truck drivers stop, so does the economy.
