RN ALERT Stand Up for RN and Patient Rights Rally against the NLRB?s attack on working people
WHEN: Thursday, October 5, 2006 11:00 am Assembly Period 12:00 Noon March to NLRB and Rally
WHERE: Assemble NW corner of Wilshire Blvd. and Whitmer St. n 1401 Wilshire Blvd. Across from Good Samaritan Hospital, Downtown Los Angeles
March to NLRB and Rally n 12:00 Noon NLRB Region 21 n 888 South Figueroa Street Corner of 9th and Figueroa, Downtown Los Angeles
WHY: CNA is sponsoring a major action in Los Angeles to protest the ?Kentucky River? rulings announced on October 3 by the National Labor Relations Board that jeopardize the ability of RNs to receive the protections afforded by CNA representation. We must send a strong message to the government and the healthcare industry that we will not allow them to deny us our fundamental human right to be represented by CNA.
What?s At Stake?
Employers are given the opportunity to strip RNs of their right to join and be represented by CNA. Without CNA representation:
* RNs would be employees ?at will? and subject to termination or other unfair discipline without contract protections.
*All pay, health coverage, retirement, and other standards now negotiated by CNA would be subject to the whim of your employer.
* Management could ignore RN-to-patient ratios and other patient protections with no voice for RNs to challenge unsafe conditions.
* The collective power of RNs through CNA could be dramatically undermined, and the rights of RNs to organize into CNA drastically curtailed. ###
