Below is a shout out from San Diego area activists
to join them at 12:00 p.m. this Saturday, as the mayor of
National City proclaims that immigrants are welcome in their city. The
organizers of the sanctuary movement have asked that all supporters of
immigrants\' rights come to National City and defend the right of people to live
without harrassment and fear of police interference in their daily lives.
The Minutemen, led by Jim
Gilchrist, have vowed to protest this event with a major Southern
California mobilization of 400 Minutemen to the streets of little National
City. Their intent, as always, is to provoke hatred and racism
through the media; if human rights supporters can mobilize to defend National
City, the Minutemen will be exposed.
This past Saturday with more than 300 supporters the
community shut down the attempted rally of 87 Minutemen in front of the National City, City Hall
offices. People young and old, in a rainbow of colors joined forces to say yes
to the proposed Sanctuary City for National City and NO TO THE VIGILANTE
MINUTEMEN that tried and failed to promote hate and stop the sanctuary city
movement. (One Minutemen was arrested and more are expected to be arrested, as
a video will be released that shows the Minutemen physically assaulting peace
activists as well as spraying peace activists with mace).
The National City sanctuary
movement has gathered hundreds of signature and will celebrate this Saturday at
1200 noon as Mayor Nick Inzunza declares that National Cit welcomes migrants and is a
Sanctuary for migrants. The celebration will include music by KANARI, prayers
and presentations by the community and of course a declaration by Mayor Inzunza.
Momentum has continued to grow for the sanctuary movement
especially the last couple of month since Mayor Inzunza, BORDER ANGELS, SI SE
PUEDE, GENTE UNIDA and others have continued to unite & promote the cause
of social justice and a welcoming spirit to our migrant brothers and sisters
instead of the negative efforts of an isolated and misdirected few. YES TO NATIONAL
CITY SANCTUARY MOVEMENT
?In contrast to the hate being promoted by a few in
Escondido, Vista, right wing extremeist and the failed minutemen movement, we
will promote the positive contributions of our migrant brethren and say yes to
sanctuary cities and to human rights for all?, states Enrique Morones of
BORDER ANGELS & GENTE UNIDA one of the movements proponents.
Several hundred pro-sanctuary supporters are expected to
join the rally and festivities this Saturday, September 30th at 1200
noon adjacent to City Hall in National
City on the corner of 12th and National City Blvd.
