Don’t miss TarFest2006-- LA’s Premiere Free Arts Festival-- featuring the Sunday in the Park event taking place in the G. Allan Hancock Park at the La Brea Tar Pits on October 8th from Noon to 6:00pm. This community-wide event will include local artisan exhibitions, food including fare supplied by Whole Foods Market and OrganicsToGo, live music, and numerous interactive activities for the entire family. Local area museums including The Museum of Natural History, The Craft & Folk Art Museum, and several others will also have a presence at the Festival with hands-on, interactive booths. Other special attractions at Sunday in the Park include a make-your-own-video lab/clinic sponsored by Key Code Media, and a booth offering clinics and one-on-one tutoring by some of LA’s hottest DJ’s in the art of turntable scratching, mixing, and DJ-ing, courtesy of the Scratch DJ Academy. The Scratch DJ Academy will also empower the crowd by providing “Scratch and Burn stations” for all those in attendance - enabling them to create their own mix tape after a quick lesson from one of Scratch’s legendary professors. Highlighting the event, KCRW Presents: The TarFest Music Program will take place on the live stage, sponsored by the El Rey Theater, and will feature an energetic, eclectic mix of sounds featuring up-and-coming bands Bitter:Sweet, The Submarines, Rhythm Roots All-Stars, and community and youth orchestras M. Gray Music Academy and Artistic Journeys. Also, the Scratch DJ Academy will be spinning sets by VIP DJ’s and Academy graduates. Aloe Blacc will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the TarFest Music Program, and will also perform with Rhythm Roots All-Stars.
