For Immediate Release
Hollywood, Ca (Thursday May 25th, 2006) – As the nights get warmer and days get longer the lineup for the May Couch night at the Lava Lounge (1533 La Brea Ave Hollywood, Ca ) will be just as enticing as residing in Los Angeles is this time of year. This third Couch night of 2006 continues to raise the bar for shows to come.
The May 25th Couch show will start off with a sure to be electrifying performance by the LA native, now San Diego resident, Renata Youngblood (http://www.renatayoungblood.com). This classically trained pianist/songstress who’s been described as having a “soul that is 6,000 years old” by Mike Halloran of San Diego's FM 94.9, has recently been nominated for Female Singer-Songwriter of the Year by the 2006 LA Music Awards. It is her talent that has led Youngblood to a wonderful musical collision with Gothic Rock band Bauhaus and allowed her to collaborate with two of the members, bassist David J and vocalist Peter Murphy, of this influential super group. Her debut album which is to be released in June “The Side Effects of Owning Skin,” was produced by David J, as was her last EP “Weightless.” In the spring of 2005 she was invited to join Peter Murphy on the west coast portion of his “Unshattered” tour. The well known three piece band Knifeyhead (myspace.com/knifeyhead) with the timeless and effortless sound is also part of this months Couch night. The entertaining band with the cult following is part of the ever popular Hotel Café scene, which has catapulted acts such as Patrick Park, Pete Yorn, and Jules. These fun loving guys can often be seen sharing the stage with Rob Giles, Joe Purdy, members of Gomez, and Cary Bros among many others, delivering their crowd pleasing tunes such as “Samantha”. Rarely in a town such as this does a band garner so much attention by what appears to be strictly word of mouth as seems to be the root of their popularity. Rounding out the night will be Sendaero. Singer Carol McCarty has been described as having “a voice that you’ve been waiting to hear for years.” A sense of nostalgia is derived when listening to this Huntington Beach based band. In fact, one of their most reflective songs “Untitled Ode to Johnny Cash” is described by Chris Zeigler of the OC Weekly as having “the same sort of modest hey-mister sleeve-tugging affection as the Minutemen’s “History Lesson.” This song was written during a moment of inspiration after the death of June Carter Cash by McCarty. Self described as ranging “from lush and layered full band songs to stripped down folkish tunes Sendaero doesn't have a genre in mind when writing” simply put “we like to play the music we make.” Music from Sendaero can be found on the OC Weekly released compilation The Real, Real, Real OC, The Sounds When We Move Compilation (which features nine other LA and OC bands), as well as on myspace.com/sendaero. The Special Guest DJ will be of the forward thinking at times cultural guidebook magazine Anthem (www.anthem-magazine.com) and Little Radio’s (www.littleradio.com) own Mark Ziemke. Ziemke is known for his surprise a minute antics and high energy level aiding in the guarantee of a good time. Resident DJ and Killradio host Jon Hershfield will continue to provide the Couch with his ability to read the vibe of the nights audience and providing a soundtrack to the social activities of the night. Doors open at 9 pm, entrance is free with flier or by RSVPing at www.luckiepierre.com/lecouch .htm or myspace.com/thecouchnight. Drink specials, free cd’s, valet parking, and label swag will be offered.
