The Local Advisory Board Meeting will be held on November 3 to consider proposals for an interim Program Council and listeners and staff alike will demand an open discussion of Program Director search committee process.

Dan, Members of the LAB,
Many people as well as myself are deeply concerned with the undermining of the Program Director Search Committee process by Lydia Brazon and David Fertig. I thought these were the processes we were supposed to be abiding by. I know of two people who have already resigned from the search committee as they were unable to "represent .. in a process where confidentiality is abused and the rules are changed after the results are in". There is so much talk of process and democracy. Why are these processes being abused? I would be interested in your response to this, Dan.
Maybe we can address this openly at the November 3rd LAB meeting. Let's put it on the agenda if possible. Can the LAB add discussion of this search committee process to the LAB meeting agenda? Perhaps many many more listeners, programmers, and staff can come to this November 3rd Sunday LAB meeting to discuss this very important issue of the undermining of the PD Search Committee process.
One listener activist said of what is happening:
Democracy has not yet arrived at Pacifica/KPFK.
David Fertig, KPFK rep to IPNB and Lydia Brazon KPFK Lab chair have replaced
the old regime of Mark Schubb and Marc Cooper and now control the station.
First they hand-picked Eva Georgia as GM covering-up her sordid career to the
GM search committee and when the PD search committee did not select Fertig's
and Brazon's candidate as a finalist they sabotaged the committee. (see
story below)
Is this what we fought so hard for?

One Search Committee Representative who resigned because of the interference said:
I have to report to my fellow unpaid staff/programmers that the PDSC will be putting forward no finalists for the position of Program Director. There will not be a staff mixer on November 5th or a Public Forum on November 6th. Last week, after a positive and respectful two-month process, we had voted on and agreed to finalists.
Last night1s published agenda included nothing more important than forum logistics, and three members of the committee let it be known they would miss the meeting to attend to personal business. Although it was not on the agenda and the full committee had not been notified in advance, the local representative to the Pacifica Board and the chair of the Local Advisory Board were present as the meeting convened. Some members of the committee - to the surprise of others - had invited them to discuss possible 3problems2 with our (at that point still 3confidential2) vote of the previous week. Some members later voted to throw out that vote and hold a revote. No finalist made it through the revote.
I cannot continue to represent you in a process where confidentiality is abused and where the rules are changed after the results are in. I apologize for not serving you well enough to successfully fulfill our mission, and ask you to accept my resignation as your representative. ***********************
