Dancing in the Margins provides opportunities for world dance choreographers to present work that addresses contemporary issues but is still grounded in a deeply-rooted tradition. World choreographers that are interested in contemporary themes and in the further development of their art often find that they do not easily fit into any readily identifiable category, such as ethnic dance or modern/post modern dance. By providing these performance opportunities, the Festival aims to both preserve and keep relevant art forms that are the basis of humanity?s cultural inheritance.
