Kimmie Weeks : ?Childhood Under Threat : A Journey to Defend the World?s Children.?
At 14 he co-founded his first NGO, Voice of the Future, providing education and health care to children in Liberia in partnership with UNICEF. In the next five years, he helped establish two other NGOs including the Children?s Disarmament Campaign. At 17, the government of Charles Taylor attempted to assassinate him for a report which he had written about the government?s involvement in training child soldiers, and he was granted political asylum in the U.S. Having survived Liberia?s brutal civil war, he continues to work with UNICEF to help children affected by war the world over as director of Youth Action International. In addition, he currently serves as UNESCO?s Ambassador of the Manifesto for Peace and Non-Violence. He will be addressing the issue of children?s rights as well as the implications of the UN Millennium Development Goals on Africa.
