It has been 8 years since the United States government has initiated the deadly Operation Gatekeeper along the US-Mexico border with California. Its intention was to reduce the flow of immigration within the urban areas and push migrants to the eastern mountains and deserts. The border has been sealed off with more border patrol agents and military equipment. Since that black October day in 1994, more than 2, 000 brothers and sisters have lost their lives. Hundreds more have disappeared; many are buried in unmarked graves throughout the border; complaints of Human Rights violations have increased dramatically since miltarization was introduced as a policy in the border and has gradually moved in into communities. The United States government has all the intention to continue militarize the US México Border even more, sending even more migrants to their deaths. This policy of death that the US government promotes, haslittered the borderlands with hundreds of graves. We must not remain silent to all these deaths and impunity. This is why students, human rights activists, community organizations and the community as a whole say BASTA YA! Put. End impunity, repression, militarization, and operation gatekeeper. We must not be indifferent to so much death We invite all democratic organizations within the region and the community in general to unite with us and MARCH AGAINST 8 YEARS OF IMPUNITY AND DEATH SATURDAY OCTOBER 19 2002, SAN YSIDRO,
Organized by MEChA, Raza Rights Coalition, American Friends Service Committee
