Panel and Photo Exhibit
Join us for a discussion of binational organizing by indigenous people from Oaxaca?their struggle to improve conditions for indigenous peoples and the challenges women face in this organizing. Speakers include Rufino Dominguez-Santos, General Coordinator, Binational Front of Indigenous Organizations (FIOB), who will discuss the ?Struggle for the Betterment of Indigenous People,? and Odilia Romero-Hernandez, Coordinator of Women's Issues, Central Council, Binational Front of Indigenous Organizations, who will discuss ?Indigenous Women and the Challenges of Binational Organizing.?
Oaxacans come from a long tradition of communal organizing and work. Rufino Dominguez has been active in organizing for human and indigenous rights and the expansion of indigenous organizing and binational pan-indigenous movements in Mexico and the U.S. Odilia Romero works with indigenous women in Los Angeles as part of this binational effort. The exhibit, which will continue on display after the 23rd, features related photos taken by Devra Weber.
The event will take place at the Southern California Library, on Sunday, October 23, at 2 p.m. It's free and everyone is welcome. Translation will be provided. Refreshments offered. For more information, check the web at www.socallib.org.
