Los Angeles Greens Meeting

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 7-9pm

David Holtzman, founder of Los Angeles Voters for Instant Runoff Elections

http://lavotefire.org, will discuss why the "Instant Runoff" system of the single transferable vote is better than plurality rule and what people can do to get the City of Los Angeles and L.A. County to use Instant Run-off Voting (IRV). He'll explain the different paths available to charter and general law cities, and how the near-total lack of suitable voting machines for Instant Runoff elections is a big problem right now, but could be solved by the end of the decade.

and

LA Green Perias Pillay, who's lived (quite happily) in Los Angeles for 20

years without a car, will speak on the pleasures of riding public transportation and provide tips to nudge people out of their cars. Perias is a member of the Southern California Transit Advocates http://socata.net and a volunteer trip leader

for TransitPeople http://transitpeople.org.

Wednesday, Aug. 17, 7-9pm,
