Transvision presents
Progressive Media ? The Time HAS ARRIVED Screening of Left Of The Dial August 6, 2005
The story of Air America, the little tough ass New York AM radio network that could, will be screened in a new feature documentary called Left of the Dial on August 6 at the home of Christopher Toussaint in Santa Monica as part of Transvision?s ongoing screening series that addresses controversial national and global issues. A potluck dinner will be followed by the 93 minute film and a discussion focusing on alternative progressive media and media reform.
On March 31, 2004, Air America launched, with Al Franken proclaiming, "Today is both an ending and a beginning: an end to the right-wing dominance of talk radio, a beginning of a battle for truth, a battle for justice, a battle indeed for America itself ... not to be grandiose."
Left of the Dial chronicles the trials and tribulations involved in starting up - and sustaining - a nationwide radio network during a highly charged election year. With candid humor, it documents the birth of signature shows such as "The O'Franken Factor" (later renamed "The Al Franken Show"), "The Randi Rhodes Show," "The Majority Report," and "Morning Sedition."
Join the Air America team in New York 12 days prior to the launch, as filmmakers Patrick Farrelly and Kate O'Callaghan follow an eclectic group of people through the launch period and beyond, as they create a slate of shows while facing mismanagement and financial chaos that bring the fledgling network to the brink of collapse. Great entertainment, encouraging and uplifting. Conspire with us under the stars in the People?s Democracy of Santa Monica.
