Unity Quest 4! is a fundraiser for an upcoming exhibition and series of events that will revisit the old Peace and Justice Center (PJC) and the cultural legacy and political imprint it has left on Los Angeles. PJC was a cultural youth arts center that evolved out of a dispute with the L.A. Conservation Corp. in 1995. Housed out of a three story building in downtown L.A., in 1995, youth from the Pico Union and East L.A. areas organized cultural arts events and workshops that focused on youth empowerment and socio-political issues concerning the surrounding communities (i.e. police brutality, immigrant rights, and the Zapatista indigenous rights movement). PJC was a space that gave voice to youth and encouraged political activism through creative expression. Groups such as Ozomatli, Very Be Careful and Black Eyed Peas played and evolved out of PJC as well as an ever-evolving creative social and political network of artists, activists and organizers throughout Los Angeles. Please come join us in Unity Quest 4 and help support community arts. The Event will take place at The Boulevard on 2631 Whittier Blvd. (near Mott St. in East Los Angeles) Saturday, May 14 at 9pm! $ 7.00 cover charge.
