Steve Mancini and Geoff Hoff will be discussing and signing their book Weeping Willow Volume One: Welcome to River Bend at A Different Light Bookstore on Saturday, May 7 at 7:30 p.m.
If you’ve ever wondered how a gay man and a straight man could agree on including a thirty year old, mint condition box of Wheaties, an alley covered in bubble gum, a Dualit toaster (the Rolls Royce of toasters), Spinoza, a Stingray bike and several autographed pictures of Danny Bonaduce into a single story and still get along, read “Weeping Willow Volume One: Welcome to River Bend.”
Hoff and Mancini’s writing has been favorably compared to Douglas Adams’ “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” author J. P. Donleavy, Harvard Lampoon’s “Bored of the Rings” and John Kennedy Toole’s “Confederacy of Dunces.” However, neither of them has read any of these classics so they don’t understand. Hoff compares their writing to Monty Python but misspells Monte. Steve compares it to Mancini and Hoff.
Imagine a staid accountant from Chicago with a beige life forced to live in the attic of a diner owned by a man with questionable hygiene who has a prom carnation (and possibly Walt Disney) in his freezer, then reluctantly falling in with the local theater group (at least one of whom would spell it “theatre”) after his wife falls for another man and empties his bank account. Follow Lee Harris, who desperately tries to make sense of a new life that seems perversely committed to thwarting his efforts. You’ll also follow the “writers”, Geoff (the man with the world’s largest head) and Steve (who thinks Othello is a board game), who banter, argue and comment throughout the narrative.
Join Steve and Geoff for an entertaining evening as they talk about their ground breaking partnership and interact with the audience.
