Special Black History Month Video Presentation--

Freedom on my Mind

This feature length film, shown in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, brings to life the 1960-65 Mississippi Voter Registration Project. The documentary tells the story of local sharecroppers—led by women like Fannie Lou Hamer—and young civil rights organizers, Black and white, who worked together to challenge the apartheid system in Mississippi. The betrayal of their demands for equality and political power at the 1964 Democratic Party Convention was a watershed event in the modern civil rights movement. Open mic discussion will follow the film.

A southern-style brunch, with vegetarian option, will be available at 1:00 pm for a .50 donation. The movie will be shown at Solidarity Hall, 2170 W. Washington Blvd. (just off the 10 freeway on bus line #68). A donation requested at the door. Everyone is welcome.
