Title: Emergency Demo: Santa Ana Police Brutality City Co
START DATE: 11/1/2004
START TIME: 5:00 PM
Duration: 3 Hours
Location: northern orange county, sela
Location Details:
Meet at Corner of Civic Center Dr. and Flower in Santa Ana. This will be directly between the Police dept. and the City Council chambers.
Event Topic: police/law
Event Type: demonstration
Contact Name:
Contact Email: chalchiuitl@yahoo.com
Contact Phone: 909-223-3384
DESCRIPTION:
MONDAY NOV. 1ST, Emergency Demonstration at Santa Ana City Council Mtg: Expose Recent and prolonged history of Police brutality to predominately poor and of color communities.

Gather at 5pm at Civic Center Dr. and Flower (adjacent to Police dept. & City Hall).

The repression in this and similar communities know that the repression from the police state, la migra, etc. has been killing our people regardless of who's in office.

BACKGROUND:

The night of October 22nd will be engraved in the

minds of those who were arrested, harassed, and beaten

as well as those who witnessed the crimes of the

police towards those who chose to exercise their right

to assemble and speak against the repression and

criminalization of police on this national day of

protest against police brutality.

The streets of Santa Ana were selected to be the

location of the march since it is a community that has

continually been a witness to harassment and

discrimination of police against common citizens. The

Santa Ana police department has murdered a number of

civilians, predominantly young colored males, and has

been able to continue the abuse and repression without

much confrontation or demand of accountability from

either the city council or any other established

government agency.

The continued criminalization on the part of the

police towards the common working class in Santa Ana

gave reason for an approximate fifty protestors to

take the streets and march in resistance to the

brutality in their poverty-stricken, colored

communities. As these protestors marched for justice

and an end to the crimes of the police state, they

themselves were victimized and brutally harassed by

the police. Their crime was to expose the reality of

the police role as perpetrators of violence rather

than protectors of peace...

We will continue to demonstrate and make our voices heard. This city council mtg is speculated to be canceled at the last minute due to the election; however, the repression in this and similar communities know that the repression from the police state, la migra, etc. has been killing our people regardless of who's in office. Therefore, we will demonstrate this monday rain or shine, mtg or no mtg, and call upon others to support this cry for justicia.
