A special screening of KPFK radio talk-show host-turned-reporter Jerry Quickley?s movie, Beats for Baghdad, produced and directed by Christian Meoli.
Jerry Quickley?s unembedded reporting for Pacifica Radio during the days leading up to and including the invasion of Iraq offers a unique and humanistic portrayal of the Iraqi people that is rarely seen in this country. In addition to Jerry?s on-the-ground account of the tension and horror in Baghdad during the first days of the bombing and a nightmarish journey out of Iraq, the action is intercut with performances by Los Angeles poets and musicians who gathered at Cabaret Voltaire to welcome him home after his harrowing ordeal.
Discussion with Jerry Quickley will follow the screening. (Also, Get Out The Vote volunteer signs-ups in the lobby for the last week of the election campaign.)
