John Nichols in the Los Angeles

Tuesday September 28 7:30PM at the Warszawa Cafe, 1414 S. Lincoln Blvd. Santa Monica

John Nichols, The Nation's Washington correspondent, one of the lead commentators in "Outfoxed" and a co-founder of the media reform group Free Press will discuss his new book on Dick Cheney, "Dick: The Man Who Is President" (The New Press) this coming Tuesday in LA. He'll also discuss the current political climate, where the presidential campaign is headed and the broader crisis of American media and politics. The event is free and open to the public and starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warszawa Cafe in Santa Monica.

More on Dick: The Man Who is President.

In this riveting, hilarious and frightening book, investigative reporter John Nichols provides the first full-length biography of Vice President Dick Cheney. The result is a fascinating, and sobering, behind the scenes account of one of the most secretive, and powerful, figures in the history of the modern Republican Party. John Nichols is the The Nation's Washington correspondent. Co-founder of the national media reform organization Free Press, Nichols is also the author of two previous books, It's the Media, Stupid and Jews for Buchanan. Nichols was one of the lead commentators on Fox and the media in the film "Outfoxed." Among other subjects, his new book examines Cheney's relationship with the conservative network, in particular, and media in general.

Here's what others are saying about Dick:

John Nichols is the toughest, most in-your-face investigative reporter in the USA. In this killer tome he's smoked the Veep out of his bunker to tell the true and nasty tale of Cheney's creepy manipulations that maneuvered our nation into a Mesopotamian quagmire.

-- Greg Palast, author, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy

The first full portrait of The Most Powerful Number Two in History, a scary and appalling picture. Cheney is revealed as the poster child for crony capitalism (think Halliburton?s no bid, cost-plus Iraq contracts) and crony democracy (think Scalia and duck-hunting).

-- Arianna Huffington, author, Fanatics and Fools

This page-turner closes the case: Cheney is our de facto president.

-- John W. Dean, author, Worse Than Watergate

A farce noir, lethally funny. A revelatory work.

?Studs Terkel
