Interfaith Activists to Offer “Healing Journeys” to Both Commemorate and Respond to 9/11
Saturday, September 11, 2004 at 11:00 AM Mac Arthur Park (7th and Parkview) in the historic Westlake area of Los Angeles
“9/11”, a date that has historically brought many examples of devastation to various parts of our world, can now be transformed from a day of tragedy into an opportunity to heal past wounds, and to pragmatically instigate a fundamental change in our society’s approach to ending violence. Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and the Violence Prevention Coalition of Greater Los Angeles, along with many other co-sponsoring organizations, will demonstrate commitment to our city, our country and our world at “9/11: Healing Journeys . . . for local and global justice”. This event - multiple marches culminating in a festival in MacArthur Park - will respectfully grieve the tragedies of the past, but simultaneously celebrate the seeds that are taking root to grow a peaceful future. Our participants include a wide range of individuals, such as ex gang members, war veterans, war refugees, laborers, clergy and children, who have overcome the worst struggles of society, and have not only managed to thrive, but now have the strength to pass on their legacies of endurance. Following the marches, the program in MacArthur Park will offer music, art, spoken word performance and an interfaith service. Confirmed guests include:
*Singers Jacqueline Fuentes and Michelle Greene *Spoken Word artist Mark Gonzalez* The International Children’s Peace Choir *Numerous notable Interfaith Clergy, including Bishop Jon Bruno, Rabbi Steve Jacobs, Imam Saadiq Saafir, Rev. George Regas, Rev. Ed Bacon and more!
This event is free and open to the public.
Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace is a three-year-old Los Angeles-based interfaith organization whose mission statement is: Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence.
