Vigil to End the Occupation in Iraq
Over a year ago the U.S. Bush administration started the Iraqi war. Consequently, over 10,000 Iraqi civilians and over 800 U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq. June 30th --- the day the U.S. government has promised to hand over Iraqi rule to the Iraqis --- is approaching. However, Iraqi self-rule can never be possible with the presence and power of the U.S. military, and the U.S. has no plan to withdraw its troops.
The U.S. military's abuse against Iraqi prisoners has been revealed. Even in the U.S. the voice against war is becoming stronger. The Bush administration's militaristic foreign policy is facing stronger resistance both in and outside the U.S. Despite all this, the South Korean government has committed troops for the second time and collaborated with the U.S. in this unjust war. As a result, the kidnapping and death of Kim Seon-Il by an Iraqi military organization was an anticipated tragedy.
We send our condolences to the family of Kim Seon-Il, and ask that the Iraqi military organizations do not protest against the wrongful war of the U.S. by more inhumane acts of kidnapping and murdering civilians.
The South Korean government collaborated with the U.S. Bush administration that started this wrongful war, even against the South Korean people's will, and sent South Korean military troops to Iraq. The South Korean government is therefore also responsible for what has happened in Iraq and what has happened to Kim Seon-Il. The U.S. Bush administration must immediately stop the occupation and war in Iraq, and the South Korean government and National Assembly must stop sending troops to Iraq and consider the withdrawal of Korean troops from Iraq.
Young Koreans United of Los Angeles and Korean Alliance for Peace and Justice of Los Angeles is hosting a vigil to commemorate the victims of the war and to protest the Bush's War in Iraq and the South Korean government's sending of troops to Iraq.
Stop US Occupation in Iraq ! We Demand Bush's Apology on the Unjust War ! South Korean Troops Out of Iraq ! Peace, from Iraq to Korea !
