Dr. Jarret S. Lovell, an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at CSUF and a local Orange County anti-war activist, will deliver a talk about the importance of language in communicating the message of the peace movement. Dr. Lovell states that it isn't enough to merely demand "peace." As he notes, everyone from capitalist champion Ayn Rand to the neo-conservatives of the Bush administration justify their policies and practices as being part of a pathway to "peace." Dr. Lovell's main argument calls for a new discourse that challenges the idea that "peace" can only be attained through traditional or economic warfare. He argues that such a discourse is necessary before the peace movement can make any real or lasting progress.
