Students Oppose Governor?s Proposed Revisions One-hundred students to rally for education at Schwarzenegger ceremony
Los Angeles- On Friday May 14, as Governor Schwarzenegger receives man of the year award at a luncheon inside the Bonaventure Hotel, outside students will award him the ?Terminator of Education? award. UCLA?s University Neighborhood and Learning Outreach Coalition (UNLOC) is rallying in response to the Governor?s compact on education, a deal made behind closed doors with UC President Robert C. Dynes and CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed, without any student, faculty, or community input as well as completely bypassing the California State Legislature. Students are demonstrating to show that they reject the process by which the compact was reached and the compact itself. The compact will not resolve any of the issues of access, quality, and affordability in institutions of higher education, but tries to resolve the budget woes of these systems on the backs of students who are already overtaxed.
On Friday supporters will rally outside of Gov. Schwarzenegger?s Inner City Games Man of the Year award ceremony at the Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The UNLOC coalition is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, professors, alumni and community members. Students will hold a mock ceremony awarding Schwarzenegger with the Terminator of Education Award.
