DESCRIPTION:
In January 2002, against the advice of project advisors, the Pasadena City Council voted in favor of allowing the redevelopment of the Raymond Theatre to a mixed-use complex that will include commercial, residential and retail space.

On the urging of many in the community who felt strongly that we should continue our efforts, we filed suit against the City of Pasadena for their decision. The fate of the Raymond Theatre now lies in the hands of the appellate courts. A decision on that case is expected at the end of Summer 2004.

In spite of the pending appellate court decision, the developer has chosen to move forward with the design review process. And, following a lengthy design review process that included a continuance due to the developer?s presentation of plans that were vastly different than what the City Council approved in 2002, the City Council called up the Design Commission?s decision regarding those plans.

We now face a new public hearing before council on Monday, May 17, 2004, at which time the council will once again decide the fate of the Raymond Theatre.
