Performance installation artists Megan and Murray McMillan will debut their new piece, "25 People Lifting," at the grand opening of the Patrick McCarthy Gallery East. This one-night-only performance takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 7-9 pm. Admission is free.
As audience members approach, large walls ? and even entire rooms ? gracefully ascend into the rafters above allowing the audience to pass through. In ?25 People Lifting,? performance and architecture merge, creating theater without a stage and sculpture that is never finished.
Funded in part by the Dallas Museum of Art, ?25 People Lifting? explores relationships between people, classes and cultures, as well as individual internal struggles. Highly choreographed and engineered, the performers of ?25 People Lifting? wear specifically designed costumes based on the clothing of their individual ancestry. In this way, each performer?s costume shares a part of their distant history.
