Community members will show their support for supermarket employees who have been on strike or locked out for over 100 days at a march and rally in Eagle Rock on February 21st. The Community Strike Support Network will send a message to the big three supermarket chains that the community is behind the workers, and we will not cross the picket line!
When: Saturday, February 21st, 2004 at 2:00 pm Where: Vons at 7311 North Figueroa Blvd. What: Participants will gather at Vons for a march up Figueroa. The route will wind back to the store for a rally at Vons. All are welcome. Please bring a sign!
The Community Strike Support Network is a group of community members, primarily focused in the NE section of Los Angeles, who are working to mobilize our neighbors in support of the grocery workers. The Community Strike Support Network calls for a fair contract and supports health care benefits and a living wage.
The 2/17 event will mark the Community Strike Support Network?s second community rally. Over 150 enthusiastic supporters participated in the Community Strike Support Network?s February 7th march and rally at the Eagle Rock Blvd. Albertsons in Glassell Park. Oxy students, union members, people who lived in the community, and representatives from several community organizations joined together to march up Eagle Rock Blvd. in support of the striking and locked out grocery workers. Participants rallied at the store with brightly colored signs, while UFCW VP John Grant, Council member Antonio Villaraigosa, and other supporters, spoke with passion and conviction about the importance of this strike.
