Authors Judy Stepan-Norris and Maurice Zeitlin, along with a panel of labor experts, will be at the Southern California Library to discuss Left Out: Reds and America?s Industrial Unions, which takes a provocative look at the relationship between American labor and the radical left. The discussion/booksigning will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2004, 2 P.M., at the Library, located at 6120 S. Vermont Avenue (between Slauson and Gage) in Los Angeles. The event is free and open to the public.
From the late 1930s through the mid-1950s, the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) brought together America?s working men and women under a united class banner. In Left Out, Stepan-Norris and Zeitlin lay out the political struggle around the expulsion of the Communist-dominated unions in the CIO and the profound repercussions for the labor movement.
Joining the authors in a compelling discussion about American labor and the left, past and present, will be moderator Luis Arroyo, labor historian and Chicano Studies Cal State Long Beach Professor; Goetz Wolff, research director of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor; and Peter Olney, Associate Director of the University of California Institute for Labor and Employment.
Everyone is invited to attend this enlightening event. For more information, call 323-759-6063.
