"PEACE ON EARTH - THROUGH A NEW FOREIGN POLICY" Thursday December 18, 2003 7:00 pm - 8:45 pm Thousand Oaks Public Library 1401 E. Janss Road Thousand Oaks, CA (@ #23 North) Local supporters of Global Exchange are hosting a presentation and community discussion entitled "Peace on Earth - Through a New Foreign Policy" onThursday, December 18th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks Public Library, 1401 E Janss Road, in Thousand Oaks. They will explore how "peace on earth" can become a reality instead of just a holiday slogan. Erin Sikorsky, Southern California Political Director, California Peace Action, will speak about her organization's campaign for establishing some fundamental changes in our country's relationship with the rest of the world. California Peace Action (www.californiapeaceaction.org) seeks a new foreign policy based on international cooperation, human rights and democracy. They want our government to: 1) Oppose arms transfers and military training or assistance to human rights-abusing governments. 2) Support efforts to regulate and control the international arms trade. 3) Support programs and agreements designed to reduce and secure the world's existing nuclear stockpiles. 4) Oppose missile defense and space weapons that increase the pace of nuclear proliferation. 5) Strengthen international law and stability by opposing the doctrine of "preemptive attacks." 6) Promote and support international systems which foster global cooperation such as the UN and the International Criminal Court. This is another in an on-going series of monthly educational programs about important issues sponsored by Ventura County's local supporter group of Global Exchange (www.globalexchange.org), a human rights organization working for peace and justice.
