Moe Bowstern has been knitting continuously since 1993, when the creation of a hat saved her from going bonkers on the Alaskan fishing boat where she was then employed as a beleaguered skiff operator. She found knitting to be the perfect balm for meetings during her days running the Autonomous Zone Info Shop in Chicago and now carries her knitting wherever she goes. She currently lives in Portland, Oregon, where she participates in the twice-yearly Hand Made Bazaar, sings with the Amalgamated Everlasting Union Chorus and writes about her fishing adventures in her zine Xtra Tuf, a publication devoted to commercial fishing stories, history and art.
