Join the UCLA Picket Line!
Over 50,000 University of California workers from three unions are going on strike next Monday through Wednesday — join DSA-LA in showing support for their labor struggle!
With contracts expired, the UC has implemented cuts on service workers that will drive them further into poverty, while refusing to address the issues of growing racial inequality or any of the demands that one of the unions, AFSCME 3299, has put forward to address these disparities:
* fair chance and local hire policies to address the 37% decline in black workers at the UC over the last two decades * inclusion of sanctuary language in their contract and a commitment to no collaboration between UCPD and ICE * stronger grievance processes for sexual harassment cases
At the same time, UC is proposing cuts to health care, wage takeaways, and a dangerous plan to destabilize the pension system.
As socialists, it is our duty to support the efforts of fellow workers in their fight to earn value of their labor. Picket lines will be happening 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and DSA-LA comrades will be mobilizing for their lunchtime rallies from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and during the last shift of the picket from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Come out and join!
