Stop LAPD Spying Coalition Community Meeting - Predictive Policing

Community Meeting on Predictive Policing - Tuesday 6 PM Traced and Tracked
The Stop LAPD Spying Coalition is hosting its next Community Meeting on Predictive Policing Tuesday March 27th at 6pm at LA CAN - 838 E. 6th Street DTLA (x-st Gladys)
Predictive Policing is a police strategy that applies secret computer algorithms to past crime data to “predict” where crime will be committed and who will commit crime. Since 2011 LAPD has been using two predictive policing programs - Predpol and Operation LASER (Los Angeles Strategic Extraction and Restoration). Predpol is a place based predictive policing program claiming to predict where crime will be committed. LASER is a person based predictive policing program claiming to predict who will commit crime.
At the meeting we will continue to unpack the use of “predictive policing” including identifying various forms of human and electronic surveillance programs, learning about data mining and algorithms, and also challenging a culture of fear and suspicion. Join us Tuesday as we continue to build!
