Prison Abolition Workshop Series with Critical Resistance Nov 3, 4, 9, 2017 Claremont Colleges Join the Prison Abolition Group in partnership with Critical Resistance for a weekend of discussion and workshops on the Prison Industrial Complex! Events: Friday November 3rd, 3 - 6 PM The Hive Intro to the Prison Industrial Complex and Abolition Workshop with Critical Resistance. Description: The prison industrial complex (PIC) is a term we use to describe the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to economic, social and political problems. Join 5C Prison Abolition and Critical Resistance LA in workshop to learn about all of the parts that make up the PIC and how fight the PIC using an abolitionist approach. Saturday November 4th, 3 - 5 PM The Hive Abolition of Policing Workshop with Critical Resistance. Description: This workshop provides a critical analysis connecting the harms of policing and purpose of law enforcement to systems of criminalization and imprisonment. Given the upsurge of popular resistance to the violence of policing, as well as the decades of efforts across the US against prison and jail expansion, this is an important political education and skills building tool that we are making available in a Training for Trainers format. Thursday November 9th, 7:30 PM Scripps College Humanities Auditorium Prison in 12 Landscapes Film Screening and Discussion with Criticial Resistance LA and Prison Abolition Group. Description: More people are imprisoned in the United States at this moment than in any other time or place in history, yet the prison itself has never felt further away or more out of sight. The Prison in Twelve Landscapes is a film about the prison in which we never see a penitentiary. Instead, the film unfolds as a cinematic journey through a series of landscapes across the USA where prisons do work and affect lives, from a California mountainside where female prisoners fight raging wildfires, to a Bronx warehouse full of goods destined for the state correctional system, to an Appalachian coal town betting its future on the promise of prison jobs.
